The Paper MAgician, by Charlie N. HolmbergCeony Twill is disappointed to learn that she will be apprenticed to a paper magician, after graduating at the top of her class, she had hopes of working with metal.  She is surprised to find that her new post pleases her, between the kindness of her mentor and the unexpected properties of paper she is warming to the idea of being a paper magician.  It turns out to be a good thing that she is a fast learner, and has memorized every fold that Magician Emery Thane has taught her.  He is attacked in their home by his ex-wife who practices the dark of the Excisioners, those who work magic in flesh. Magician Emery Thane’s life is in danger, will Ceony’s inexperienced paper magic be enough to save them both?  This is a lovely story about the disappointments in life turning into blessings, but it also includes danger, adventure, and hope.  I highly recommend it.
